Surfaces in table tennis: the smooth ones
Smooth rubbers have a regular surface without pimples or with very short pimples. They generally offer good control and are often used by beginners and intermediate players. These rubbers allow for versatile shots, but they offer less spin and speed than pips rubbers.
Rubbers with short pips

Rubbers with inverted pips
Reverse pips rubbers have a smooth surface with short pips that point inward. They offer a good grip on the ball, allowing to generate various effects, such as topspin, cut and sideways. Reverse pip rubbers are the most commonly used by professional players and offer a good balance of speed, control and spin.
