Types of Table Tennis Blades
Mamba Blades | Professional Table Tennis Blades
The purpose of the following article is to illustrate the different types of table tennis blades that exist and their classification based on their properties.
Currently, the types of table tennis blades are classified into three main categories:
Offensive Table Tennis Blades (OFF)
Blades designed for players with a speed-based playing style. In fact, these are generally fast and dense blades with little flexibility. In this type of blade, the ball usually has a reduced contact time. They are made in 5, 7, and 9 layers.
Offensive Blades (OFF+)
To begin with, table tennis blades (OFF+) are those that offer very high speed with each stroke. In fact, they are generally made of wood reinforced with synthetic, mineral, or vegetable fibers in the outer position. Thus, they tend to be very dense with very little flexibility. Their weight is about 88 to 95 grams.
Offensive Blades (OFF)
Table tennis blades (OFF) are those that offer high speed with each stroke and moderate control. They are generally made of wood reinforced with synthetic, mineral, or vegetable fibers in the outer or inner position. They tend to be dense and a bit more flexible than OFF+. Finally, their weight is about 85 to 90 grams.
Offensive Blades (OFF-)
Table tennis blades (OFF-) are those that offer good speed with each stroke and higher control than the previous models. Generally, wood reinforced with synthetic, mineral, or vegetable fibers is used in the inner position. They tend to be less dense and more flexible. Their weight is about 80 to 85 grams.
Allround Table Tennis Blades (ALL)
Blades designed for players with a control and spin-based playing style. These are generally less fast than offensive blades, lightweight, and with greater flexibility. In these types of blades, the ball has a moderate to long contact time. They are made in 5 plies but with a softer and more flexible wood core than offensive blades.
Allround Blades (ALL+)
Table tennis blades (ALL+) are in many cases very similar to (OFF-). They offer good speed in attack and high control in defensive strokes. Allround blades are generally 100% wood and in some cases reinforced with synthetic, mineral, or vegetable fibers in the inner position. Thus, they tend to be lightweight and flexible. Their weight varies between 75 and 85 grams.
Allround Blades (ALL)
Table tennis blades (ALL) are probably the most common on the market. They offer moderate speed in attack and very high control in defensive strokes. They are generally 100% wood and tend to be lightweight, soft, and flexible. Finally, their weight is about 70 to 80 grams.
Allround Blades (ALL-)
Table tennis blades (ALL-) are very slow blades that offer very high control on strokes. Due to their properties, beginners often use them. Generally, they only contain wood plies. In fact, they tend to be lightweight, soft, and flexible. Their weight is about 70 to 80 grams.
Defensive Table Tennis Blades (DEF)
Finally, defensive blades are designed for players with a control and spin-based playing style. These are generally slow and lightweight blades with excellent flexibility. In reality, with this type of blade, the ball usually has a very high contact time, which is why they are perfect for playing defense with a high dose of spin. In principle, they are made in 3 and 5 layers, 100% wood with a very soft core.
